State colour

state_colourMaroon was officially proclaimed as Queenslands State colour by the Governor in Council on 13 November 2003.

This proclamation gave effect to the long-held, but informal, tradition of using maroon to represent Queensland.  In particular, maroon has long been associated with sporting teams from Queensland.

The Pantone Matching System colour 202 is the designated shade of maroon proclaimed by the Governor in Council; however, Queenslanders can continue to wear all shades of maroon at sporting and other events to continue to show the spirit of the State.
