
Queensland Week, held from 1-8 June 2008, included a week-long program of events and activities designed to celebrate Queensland's great people and places.
A total of 88 events were held throughout Queensland and they included a wide variety of celebrations such as:
Local communities, councils and organisations registered their events with us, received free merchandise packs (giveaways included bunting, balloons and chefs’ aprons) and event listings were published on this website. The 2008 event calendar has now been taken down.
From free sausage sizzles at Julia Creek in the far west of the state to the RACQ Big BBQ held at Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane, local communities turned out in thousands to celebrate Queensland’s people, places and traditions.
Some popular regional events included:
Darling Downs: local hotels promoted Queensland wines
Key hotels in Dalby, Plainland and Toowoomba offered their patrons complimentary glasses of Queensland wines with meals.
Bundaberg: local festival promoted sustainability
Bundaberg citizens paid tribute to World Environment Day by discussing local sustainability issues with community organisations such as Landcare and Sustainabundy
Glenmorgan: community celebrated many birthdays at once
Glenmorgan residents took the opportunity to celebrate Glenmorgan State School 75th Anniversary, Monty's Garage Vintage Car Museum Official Opening, Glenmorgan Store 1st birthday & Myall Park Botanic Garden 20th birthday.
