Queensland's festivals

Queensland hosts celebrations and festivals all year round, with events to suit all tastes and interests. From the far north to southern coast to outback west, there's always something to celebrate in Queensland.

Out of the Box Festival
June 2008
Out of the Box is Australia's premier kid's festival. The festival program is targeted at three to eight-year-olds and features workshops, performances and plenty of free events. The 2008 festival's theme is 'Sharing our stories'.

Mary Poppins Festival in the Park
Maryborough - July 2008
Visit Maryborough in July and join in the wonder and magic as Maryborough celebrates the world's most famous nanny. Mary Poppins Week honours Pamela Lyndon Travers, the author of Mary Poppins, who was born in Maryborough in 1899.

Brisbane Festival
July 2008
The biennial Brisbane Festival features a broad arts programme including dance, opera, theatre, lectures, cabaret and fringe events. The festival brings the arts to Brisbane communities with a range of events held in various venues around Brisbane's city and suburbs.

Cultural Fest
Townsville - August 2008
Townsville's Cultural Fest brings the Townsville region to life with five days of dance, food, music, arts, workshops and sports. The festival's theme of 'Unity in Diversity' brings the community together in the spirit of fun and friendship.

Noosa Jazz Festival
September 2008
The four-day Noosa Jazz Festival brings together over 150 Australian and international artists performing in Noosa's restaurants in jazz venues. The festival features open-air concerts, historical jazz feature shows and daily free gigs.

Brisbane Riverfestival
Brisbane's Riverfestival celebrates the iconic Brisbane River and its place in the hearts and lives of Brisbane's people. The festival's programme, which has a strong environmental focus, includes forums and free community events such as the stunning Riverfire fireworks display.

Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers
September 2008
Australia's longest running annual horticultural event, the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, is a celebration of horticulture, entertainment and gourmet foods. Along with gorgeous floral displays, the festival features food, wine, live performances and community activities.

Woodford Folk Festival
December 2008
The annual Woodford Folk Festival is a highlight of Australia's summer music festival. Held over six days, the popular music event features a full arts programme including concerts, dances, workshops, forums, street theatre, comedy sessions, acoustic jams and social dialogue and debate.
